Working in the She-Shed is amazing most of the time, but in the winter, there are challenges. We get a lot of power failures and internet outages making it somewhat frustrating when you have a big list of things you need to get done. This was the case the other day, but I was determined to have a productive day. We spent the morning without power, so I focused on doing tasks that didn’t require me to be online or on my computer. (Ok, I actually took the Christmas tree down - it had to be done…) But then the power came back on about noon and I was determined to get things done. Here’s what I did…

When we have big storms, the power can go out at any time, so I knew I wanted to focus on items that were not long-involved tasks.

Normally, I batch my tasks together into blocks, usually 1-2 hours, but since I had no idea if the power would go out again, I knew that would be a challenge.

I looked at my projects and picked tasks that took no more than half an hour to complete. They may not be related to each other, which was a bit mind-boggling, but I had a ton of things that needed to get done, but because they were small items, they were on the back burner.

So, how am I going to do this on a go-forward basis? I will get serious about my workflows and break down all of my major projects. They seem big once you break them down, but if you bite off a bit at a time, you actually get more done.
